Autumn Travel Bucket List

It’s one of the most beautiful times of the year, in some places more than others. Everyone’s looking up how to make pumpkin spiced lattes and cute costume ideas, and more than a few decide to put together an autumn travel bucket list. So to help with that, here are the top ten places that you need to be this fall!



Asheville, North Carolina U.S.A.

This city is known for its vibrant culture even outside of fall. Nestled right in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, it has beautiful architecture and more than a few art galleries. During autumn, it becomes even more incredible, with the Appalachian Trail turning red and gold. It’s also the perfect time to sample the regions famous craft beer!


Montreal, Canada

This is the perfect time of year to experience one of Canada’s most famous cities. The temperature is just right, the air is crisp, and the trees are stunning. Walk down yellow and orange roads, go hiking through Mount Royale, and even coffee shop hop in search of the best spiced latté. Hotels are at their cheapest and the botanical gardens at their most lovely!


Lugano, Switzerland

The Lugano Autumn Festival is revered all across the globe, and what better time to see it than now? You can taste test the best foods and try the regions famous wine while exploring the quaint autumn markets. There are chestnuts and crafts, and even guided tours. The city is awash with colours at the edge of Lake Lugano, making fall the ideal time to see it!



Utrecht, Netherlands

A city built on a series of canals, Utrecht is at it’s most beautiful this time of year. Red and orange trees line the rivers and bridges, turning it into a riot of colour. Explore bookshops and cafés along the water’s edge and embrace the Dutch culture. It’s one of the quietest times of the year, allowing you to stroll by at your own pace without being called a tourist by the locals!


Prague, Czech Republic

Nothing screams autumn better than Prague during the fall. The architecture of the city itself is red and gold, and when the buildings match the leaves on the trees, the streets come alive. The Autumn International Music Festival fills the air with classical symphonies and the scent of hot chocolate wafts from every shop corner. If you have time, then you can try Burčák, a special type of wine that’s only sold during the fall!


Tuscany, Italy

The heart of grape country, visiting Tuscany during autumn gives you the perfect excuse to go wine tasting. You can visit medieval towns or book a session in the most famous spa in the world. There are ancient castles, glamorous villas, and even an abandoned abbey or two. Fall is the season of Sagre, or, harvest festivals, which provides you with the opportunity to pick grapes, mushrooms, and pumpkins. It’s cool and quiet and the ideal time to explore!


Tokyo, Japan

The weather is perfect, the food is perfect, and the trees are definitely perfectly, so what’s not to love? It’s the time of sweet potatoes and pike fish, as well as mushrooms and oranges. Japan has some of the most spectacular tree species in the world, all of which reach the height of beauty during autumn. You can walk through Yoyogi Park or hike up Mount Takao, and even see Mount Fuji, the tallest mountain in Japan. See brightly coloured flowers and vibrant leaves throughout the city!



Adelaide Hills, Australia

The prime destination for nature lovers every year, Adelaide Hills has some of the most spectacular trees in all of Australia. Vineyards and orchards all come to life and the Botanical Gardens showcases the best leaves Crafers has to offer. There are ‘pick your own’ events for strawberries, figs and apples, as well as walking tours and picnics throughout much of the town. Adelaide Hills is the perfect example of a Fall city, and definitely worth a visit!


Western Cape, South Africa

This is the jewel of South Africa every autumn and one of the quietest times of year to travel. The vineyards turn honey-coloured and rose and the scent of wine fills the air. Numerous tours are offered throughout the Western Cape, including guides through Overberg. This is one of the most impressive sceneries in the country and often used for romantic getaways. You can stay in spas and resorts, luxurious guesthouses, and even rustic waterfront chalets!


Machu Picchu, Peru

One of the most famous historical sites in the world, Machu Picchu offers more than just ancient architecture. During autumn, the weather is at its best and the skies are clear and calm. Its the perfect climb to climb the Andes, especially since its outside of peak tourist time. The mountain turns bronze and gold and the trees a burnt omber. It’s the ideal time to visit this incredible landmark and you definitely won’t regret the journey!
